CONNECTICUT HAS THE HIGHEST MOTOR FUELS TAXES IN THE REGION Motor Fuels Prices in Connecticut The Same As Everywhere Else in the Region - Except for Taxes [Cromwell, CT] Today the group that represents the majority of the local gasoline and diesel fuel retailers in Connecticut, ICPA, issued another reminder to motorists regarding the dubious distinction our state has - that of being the state that imposes the highest motor fuels taxes in the Northeast. Here are the facts. On gasoline, we see that the price of gasoline in Connecticut is about where every other state is around our region - except that after the State of Connecticut imposes the highest gas taxes in the region, we end up with the second highest prices.
On diesel fuel, we see the same thing, as shown below.
The State of Connecticut imposes the highest state diesel excise tax in the Northeast - and without the taxes our retailers sell diesel fuel for about the same price as anywhere else in the Northeast. For a breakdown of what goes into the price of a gallon of gasoline, please see the following: http://icpa.org/motor_fuels/retail_gasoline_price.htm Before the local retailer adds anything to pay him or herself or pay for running the station the price of gasoline is $2.85. Gasoline retailers in Connecticut collect and remit for the State of Connecticut $1.3 billion in revenues annually from motor fuels taxes, lottery sales, tobacco taxes, license fees, sales taxes, corporate income taxes and personal income taxes. $1.3 billion. $800 million of this is motor fuels taxes alone - $228.57 a year for every man, woman and child in the State of Connecticut. xxxx |
