ITEC PLANNING BPI-HES HOME ENERGY CONSERVATION CLASSES

ITEC is now planning the addition of BPI-HES standard Home Energy Conservation classes starting sometime in the late winter/early spring. ITEC will be able to locally train anyone interested in becoming a whole home envelope energy conservation technician. Utilities in the state are under state mandate to perform energy conservation programs in homes in Connecticut, funded from a systems benefit charge on everyone's electric bill. United Illuminating met with ICPA last week and came with an offer to assist with subsidizing the development of new Energy Conservation Technician training at ITEC - something we will take them up on as we develop our local classes.

Last week Governor Rell issued a press release highlighting the first 14 oilheat companies that have entered the energy conservation program. Governor Rell said, "When oil-heated households receive a Home Energy Solutions audit, they will be referred to one of the participating heating, piping and cooling contractors to have their systems cleaned, tuned and tested. In either case, the customer will be asked to pay only $75 for both services. The state and the ratepayer-funded Home Energy Solutions program will pick up the rest of the costs."

The company performing the clean-tune & test service balance bills the state for the remainder of the cost up to a maximum of $200. The company performing a whole home energy audit balance bills up to a maximum of $300. For more information go to the OPM website here > http://www.ct.gov/opm/cwp/view.asp?a=2994&q=428502

ITEC Distance Learning Programs

Since January, 2008 ITEC students have been able to take ITEC classes online, via the internet. Our first distance learning class was from our "B" License program and is Basic Electricity. This month we have now added Codes and Building Trades Safety. Students register and pay ITEC as they normally would and then will receive an electronic confirmation by email with a password to our website where the student may then begin to take the class. CLICK HERE to see what the first "classroom" looks like.

Upon successfully completing the class the student will receive a course completion card and credit just as is the case for any student who attends the class at ITEC.
